One of the India’s most reliable and prestigious company, Tata Motors, is all geared to foray into luxury bus segment. Tata Motors also have more than 50% markets share in commercial vehicles. Company is planning to launch ‘Divo’ – a luxury AC coach meant for intercity long-distance in first quarter to next fiscal. Volvo and Mercedes will be main competitors for company in this segment.
“As of now, five Divos are under trail run on the Indian roads. With Divo, we will directly compete with Volvo and Mercedes on the basis of an international product at an Indian price. So, you can make out that we will be 10 per cent lesser expensive than our competitors,” he said.
Divo has been styled by Hispano Corracera, a Spanish bodybuilding company. These buses are powered by a 285-horse power Cummins engine. Tata Motors hopes to sell up to 300 units per year against the current market size of about 500 each year.
