Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, One of the world’s richest men occupies some prime property which reportedly he paid $15 million in 1996. Now Mayor Tom Tate wants him to build on it and plans to write to him to let him know the city is “open for business”.
The land has been unused since Sultan bought the property , however mayor wants to use the same for development purpose.
Sultan, who has an estimated worth of $20 billion from the oil and gas industries lives in a palace of 1788 rooms, the Sultan’s assets include a theme park, Boeing 747 and massive car collection.
Member for Moncrieff Steve Ciobo was cautious about criticising the Sultan for sitting on the land but said there was no doubt it was an excellent block of land. “This site is one of the best on the Gold Coast in relation to its size, position in Surfers Paradise and proximity to the beach,” he said.
Mr Ciobo said it was ideal for a massive casino-resort development.
