Airtel to disconnect users inactive for 60 days or more

If you have Airtel connection and if it has been inactive for over 60 days them it is very likely that your services will be terminated. The company has been forced to do this due to a shortage in phone numbers after the Department of Telecom tightened the allocation criteria.

You are not alone as this will impact over 20 million subscribers across the country which is over 12% of 180 million subscribers and mostly people who have taken plans under lifetime validity pre-paid cards as they are currently required to do a minimum recharge only once in six months. But now they will have to recharge their connection every two months or face deactivation.

Airtel is not only operator getting affected by the number shortage but other operators are also likely to follow suit in which the case the impact could be on as many as 200 million connections.

According to the TRAI, only 70 per cent of the 858 million SIMs in the market are in the VLR (active subscriber) category.
